Object of Prayer

Humorous Prayer

A little boy was saying his bedtime prayers with his mother: “Lord bless Mommy and Daddy and God GIVE ME A NEW BICYCLE!!!”

   Mom: “God’s not deaf son.”

Boy: “I know Mom but Grandma’s in the next room and she’s hard of hearing!”

Need for Prayer

Many view God only as a kind of heavenly genie ready when you rub the lamp of prayer to appear and say “Yes master; what do you want me to do?” But God is not like that. God is sovereign. God moves according to his own purposes and he does not play games with us. He is not to be mollified and placated by a temporary return to him when we get into difficulty. ── Michael P. Confident Access in Prayer

In Saudi Arabia according to Arab custom reinforced by a 1952 decree of King Abdul Aziz every subject has the right of access to his ruler-whether the ruler is a tribal sheik and governor or the monarch himself-to present petitions of complaint or pleas for help. Even the poorest Saudi can approach his sovereign to plead a cause. Crown Prince Fahd speaking about this custom said “Anyone anyone can come here. That gives them confidence in their government…They know they may look to us for help.”

Every Christian has the right to approach an even greater monarch the King of kings. ── Michael P. GreenIllustrations for Biblical Preaching
