Sinful Life

Covetousness

A father was walking down the street with his two small sons both of whom were cry loudly A neighbor passing by inquired “What’s the matter? Why all the fuss?” The father responded “The trouble with these lads is what’s wrong with the world. One has a piece of candy and the other wants it!”

Covetousness

The trouble with this world is that too many people try to go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands.

Covetousness

The story is told of an elderly Quaker who to teach his neighbors a lesson put up a sign on a vacant piece of property he owned that read “I will give this lot to anyone who is really satisfied.”

A wealthy farmer read it as he rode by and said to himself “Since my Quaker friend is going to give this piece of land away I might as well have it as anyone else. I am rich and have all I need so I am well able to qualify.” He went up to the Quaker’s door and when the aged man appeared the farmer explained why he had come.

“And art thou really satisfied?” asked the owner of the lot.

“I surely am ” was the farmer’s reply. “I have all I need and I am well satisfied.”

“Friend ” said the other “if thou art satisfied then what dost thou want with my lot?” The question revealed the covetousness that was hidden in the man’s heart.

Depravity

”Total depravity” is a doctrine rarely preached anymore. Why don’t we feel as wicked as the doctrine says we are? For the same reason that a fish doesn’t feel wet—because it is immersed.

Depravity

The Bible says that man was created a little lower than the angels. One thing is clear today—he’s been getting a little lower ever since.

Depravity

Nothing comes out of man’s physical body that is either pleasing to look at or pleasing to smell. Likewise there is nothing that comes out of man’s heart that is pleasing to God (for salvation).

Depravity

Suppose we pour a measure of salt into a container of pure water. The salt affects every drop of the water to the extent that all the formerly pure water becomes salty. From that time on every bit of water drawn from that container is salty and no pure water can be drawn. This is similar to the depraved condition of man. The first sin was an act one act that brought sin into the human race. Since that one act the very bloodstream of the human race has been polluted.

Depravity

Dr. Albert Einstein in a lecture given in 1948 spoke of the nature of man in relation to the world: “The true problem lies in the hearts and thoughts of men. It is not a physical but an ethical one…What terrifies us is not the explosive force of the atomic bomb but the power of the wickedness of the human heart.”

Depravity

No clever arrangement of bad eggs will make a good omelet. –C.S. Lewis

Depravity

”If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?” –Alecksandr Solzenitsyn

Fornication

Fornication is like a cat’s paw. When lightly stroked it is quite soft and pleasurable but increased pressure brings out the claws of sin that will shred you very life.

Fornication

Vice is a monster of such terrible mien

That to be hated needs but to be seen.

Yet seen too often familiar her face

We first endure then sanction then embrace.

The creator of Hustler magazine's "Chester the Molester" cartoon

was found guilty January 5 1990 on five counts of molesting a teen-age girl.  Jurors found Duane Tinsley 44 guilty of molesting his victim now an adult from the age of 13 to 18.  He was also found guilty on three counts of substantial sexual contact with the girl. Tinsley's cartoon features a lewd old man who molests young children.  The woman he victimized as a child said some of his cartoons were based on things he did to her.  Tinsley could face a maximum sentence of 16 years in prison and a $50 000 fine. --American Family Association Newsletter    Spring 1990

Depravity

The Bible says that in the last days "the love of many will grow cold" indicating a terrible breakdown in the ability to treat even those closest to us properly.  A sad example of this condition comes from North Chicago where prosecutors say a father poured sulphuric acid down the throat of his infant son and then he put sulphuric acid in a can of baby formula and then he conspired with the mother to blame the manufacturer of the baby formula hoping for a large cash settlement.  The baby boy after 27 months his throat and insides irreparably burned died. --Associated Press 5-8-90

Depravity

A jury in Allegan Michigan deliberated about 40 minutes before

convicting Carolyn Wilson 42 and Annette Sanford 34 of criminal sexual conduct.  They were accused of allowing men to rape and molest their children in exchange for money or drugs several times a week from 1985 to 1988.  These convictions involved the rape of Wilson's son now 13 and her daughter now 15. Wilson and Sanford also face sentencing on charges they forced Wilson's then 11-year-old son and Sanford's then 9-year-old daughter to have sex while they watched.  Prosecutors said Sanford's three daughters and Wilson's two daughters and one son now ages 9 to 19 were sexually assaulted during the three years the families lived together.  Three of the children testified they were raped while their mothers watched.  The children also told of being beaten by their mothers and a social worker testified they were forced to scavenge because they were denied food. --Associated Press   3-9-90

Drugs

More than twice as many people as previously estimated - 2.2 million - are addicted to cocaine in the USA says a congressional survey.  The new survey which finds one addict for every 100 people is considered more accurate than previous federal surveys conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.  "We're facing an epidemic that's out of control " says Sen. Joseph Biden D-Del. who is releasing the Senate Judiciary Committee Survey.

   The new study shows:

   * New York State has 434 000 cocaine addicts the USA's highest.  Experts say the true figure is probably higher.

   * Washington D.C. is the per capita leader:  32.0 addicts per 1 000.  Experts say that figure should also be higher.

   * South Dakota has the fewest hard-core cocaine addicts 800 and the lowest per capita total 1.1 per 1 000 residents.

   * 1 out of every 5 people arrested for any crime is a hard-core cocaine addict.

   * Homeless people are five times more likely than average to be cocaine addicts.--Jack Kelley USA Today 5-10-90

Evil Influence

James City VA - A girl who said she loves what Freddy Krueger does in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies has been charged with attempted murder.  She tried to murder a 13 year old boy with a jump rope - this is the girl's fourth assault.  Her reply "It feels good to try and strangle - it is fun to kill." --James City Virginia Daily Press   8-17-89

Evil Speech

Most of us have watched T.V. grow from infancy to adultery.  It's interesting to note that when it was made in 1946 the script of the classic Christmas movie "It's a Wonderful Life " -- starring Jimmy Stewart -- had the following words deleted:  jerk lousy God dang impotent and garlic eaters.  These words were censored from the original script because they were deemed unacceptable at that time for movie audiences.  Whether up or down we have come a long way. --Associated Press 3-20-90

Foolishness

In an article published on April 2 1990 in Newsweek magazine Noel Perrin offered a new approach to solving America's "overpopulation problem" (we have actually fallen below zero population growth already!).  Perrin suggests that the federal government pay every pubescent girl $400 for not getting pregnant for one year.  The second year she would receive $500 then $600 the third and so on until she is 52 years of age.  If she chooses to remain barren for life she would receive nearly $100 000 for her non-productivity!  Consider the world Perrin would impose upon us--a society with few or no children to raise.  If the system of rewards succeeded even for a few years there would soon be no maternity wards no pediatricians no toys no tricycles no schools no children's literature no little ones around our feet to love and train and protect.  All that would remain in a decade or two would be a society of utterly selfish adults steadily moving toward death with no hope of youthful regeneration.  The Creator's most precious gift of procreation would be but a memory.  Indeed Noel Perrin has given us a prescription for social suicide--all for a mere $114 billion.  What a bargain! --Focus on the Family Newsletter  April 1990

Depravity

I read recently some remarks shared by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn who spent many years in Soviet concentration camps upon receiving the Templeton Prize in Religion in London:

"Through decades of gradual erosion the meaning of life in the West has ceased to be seen as anything more lofty than the 'pursuit of happiness'...The concepts of good and evil have been ridiculed for several centuries...It has become embarrassing to appeal to eternal concepts...The West is ineluctably slipping toward the abyss...losing more and more of its religious essence as it thoughtlessly yields up its younger generation to atheism."

Depravity

Today's quote worth requoting is by Billy Graham.  He says "Most of us follow our conscience as we follow a wheelbarrow.  We push it in front of us in the direction we want it to go." --Associated Press 6-21-90

Fornication - Teen Facts

Since the popular push for contraceptives for teens began teenage sexual activity and pregnancy have increased almost 400%. 70% of unwed teen mothers will go on welfare.  Of teens who marry because of pregnancy 60% will be divorced in five years. --Josh McDowell

Lust

Lust is the craving for salt of a man who is dying of thirst.

HUMAN NATURE

October 7 1969 the Montreal Canada police force went on strike. Because of what resulted the day has been called Black Tuesday. A burglar and a policeman were slain. Forty-nine persons were wounded or injured in rioting. Nine bank holdups were committed almost a tenth of the total number of holdups the previous year along with 17 robberies at gunpoint. Usually disciplined peaceful citizens joined the riffraff and went wild smashing some 1 000 plate glass windows in a stretch of 21 business blocks in the heart of the city hauling away stereo units radios TVs and wearing apparel. While looters stripped windows of valuable merchandise professional burglars entered stores by doors and made off with truckloads of goods. A smartly dressed man scampered down a street with a fur coat over each arm with no police around anarchy took over.── Source Unknown.

A school teacher lost her life savings in a business scheme that had been elaborately explained by a swindler. When her investment disappeared and her dream was shattered she went to the Better Business Bureau.

"Why on earth didn't you come to us first?" the official asked. "Didn't you know about the Better Business Bureau?"

"Oh yes " said the lady sadly. "I've always known about you. But I didn't come because I was afraid you'd tell me not to do it."

The folly of human nature is that even though we know where the answers lie--God's Word--we don't turn there for fear of what it will say. ── Jerry Lambert.
