Priority of Service
When Dr. W.A. Criswell
pastor of the
largest Southern Baptist church in the world
was preaching in the
One day he pulled his pony to a stop
and began to talk to him. He said
“Paddy
there is something wrong. We are not
doing it right. I am afraid we have things turned around an dour priorities are
not where they ought to be. Maybe we ought to serve God and place him first in
our lives.” Kraft then drove home and made a covenant that for the rest of his
life he would first serve God and then would work as God directed.
Many years after this
Dr. Criswell
heard James Kraft say
“I would rather be a layman in the

David Brainerd said this to
Jonathan Edwards: “I do not go to heaven to be advanced but to give honor to
God. It is no matter where I shall be stationed in heaven
whether I have a
high or low seat there
but to live and please and glorify God… My heaven is to
please God and glorify Him
and give all to Him
and to be wholly devoted to
His glory.”
“ GO.”
There are
several commands that are associated with the monosyllable “go” which we may
take to illustrate the commands of Christ.
Ⅰ. Power. “ Go in this thy might” ( Judges 6:14).
Ⅱ. Prayer. “In Thy name we go against this multitude” (11. Chronicles
14:11).
Ⅲ. Progress. “ Go forward” (Exodus 14:15; Psalm 84:7).
Ⅳ. Practice. “ Go and do thou likewise” (Luke 10:37).
Ⅴ. Proclamation. “ Go tell this people” (Isaiah 6:9; Acts 28:26).
Ⅵ. Perweverance. “ Go out into the highways
” &c.(Luke 14:21-23; Matt.22:9).
Ⅶ. Presence. “ My presence shall go with thee” (Ex.33:14).
